A busy weekend was waiting for me. Saturday-morning started at the rowingclub, after that cycling home (where I took a shower) and taking the car to Bennekom (about 200 kilometers south). The first ROAM (Roll Over America) meeting was held there and was attended by almost all Dutch participants. First there was a cycle-trip of about 150 kilometers to work up the appetite for the dinner later that evening and a good conversation about the trip to America next year. Like I said before, I had a busy weekend so I took the car instead of the bike.We talked about the route, camping, what to do on the restday, roadsurface, kind of tires (to minimize punctures) et cetera. Many things are still unclear or have to be made public. That's exactly why we organised this meeting. Next year we want a second meeting where hopefully more things will become clear. This meeting will be held in the south of The Netherlands (Limburg) so we can experience and train for some more hills. For me that means cycling about 280 kilometers, do 'the ride' and cycling home the next day. All for training...After dinner and the chatting I decided that midnight would be a good time to go to sleep. I'd brought my little tent which stood lonely on the campsite. Nobody was crazy enough to sleep outside with these kind of temperatures. I'd forgotten my PJ's, but luckely my sleepingbag was warm enough. The next morning we had breakfast and after dropping of Maarten Heckman's wife at the trainstation of Ede-Wageningen I went to my family for a dinner-gathering. Around the table with a mini-BBQ and resting from the meal on the couch was a good idea. Tonight I go back to Groningen to shoot some video for the National Student Championship Theatersports. So, as I mentioned before, a busy weekend...

ROAM meeting

Excellent! This initiative by the Dutch riders is great.
I really would have liked to be at that meeting but it did not work out for me this time. I sure hope to be there next spring. Limburg is fine for me – only a 100 km ride.
