Groningen's Backyard and some maintenance

What's this? Does Groningen have a backyard, and I'm maintaining it? Relax, it's about a new TV show which will air spring 2012 on local TV. I've been asked to help and think about sketches and finding characters. Saturday afternoon there was some kind of 'audition' where we could try stuff out on a couch (no, don't overthink it). Basically it came down to us picking out a piece of wardrobe and trying to find our character and sit on the couch to see how it looks on camera. It all went pretty well and the next week I'll hear if I 'got the job'.

My own VPS

My website has been running on my own VPS as a test and without any major problems. That's why I moved my website from my current provider (Antagonist, which I'm quite happy with) to a VPS from DirectVPS. The whole migration took less than an hour. As I said before... no major problems.

See you in eight weeks...

This Saturday I went to the Ligfietsgarage Groningen for some last maintenance which the didn't have the time to do last time. First the head lights had to be adjusted. When I'm driving on bad surface it makes a lot of noise. By placing the lights a bit different the noise has been reduced. Also the brake cable that was holding the steer up started to unwind (because of the maintenance). I replaced it by a new one. A piece of Velcro on the foam part on the 'hump' of the bike started to come loose.

Pre-ROAM check-up and almost run over

This morning I took my velomobile to the Ligfietsgarage Groningen for a pre-ROAM check-up. Because America has some mountains (like the Rocky's) it seemed a good idea to put in a smaller gear in the middle of the bike. Also, a number of components were checked, lubricated and replaced. The rear chain for instance has been replaced. That being said, it lasted for some 10.686 kilometers. Also the steering block has been replaced because it had a little to much play when I'm speeding down the mountain with 70+ km/h. The last part they have replaced was the bell.

Turbulent day

In many way's this was a day that I won't forget. First Velox Incendia (my velomobile) turned 1. Secondly the wind was blowing fiercely and this was the first time for me to ride in a storm. According to the weather it was about 5-6 bft (about 50 km/h) with gusts up to 80 km/h. And lastly, I was surprised in a very unpleasant way, but more on that later.

Ready for the darkness

Since the first ride on my rowingbike I haven't gotten around to riding it again. Last week I had 24/7 stand-by from work and that meant carrying a laptop with me (not so very handy). This week I don't have to but there still is another problem, I haven't fitted the bike with a headlight and that was necessary for biking to and from work in the dark. The mounting point was there and so was the headlight, but the problem was that the light was to far back and the footslider would crash into it if I started to use the bike.
