Pre-ROAM check-up and almost run over

This morning I took my velomobile to the Ligfietsgarage Groningen for a pre-ROAM check-up. Because America has some mountains (like the Rocky's) it seemed a good idea to put in a smaller gear in the middle of the bike. Also, a number of components were checked, lubricated and replaced. The rear chain for instance has been replaced. That being said, it lasted for some 10.686 kilometers. Also the steering block has been replaced because it had a little to much play when I'm speeding down the mountain with 70+ km/h. The last part they have replaced was the bell.

No parking please

You can stop your car on all sorts of places... for instance on the cycle path.

Three times a charm

Yes, we got another one, well... actually three. The first car driver does stop, but does it in the middle of the other lane where another car is coming. The second car also stops, but arrives at a high speed, making me unsure if he was going to stop. The last one leaves a side street with a raised curb (so I have priority). She pull's out and luckily sees me and hits the throttle.

Start my own section?

I had a few bingo's this week. Wednesday an impatient car driver wanted to get in front of me no matter what and Thursday a encountered a situation which annoys me on a regular basis. People who don't know the rules of the road. Seeing that there are more and more of this movies I was wondering if it's a good idea to create a separate section where these movies are all displayed on a page. What do you think?

Even more movies

Okay, two more movies, just for you guys. But now my archive is empty, so you'll have to wait a bit for the next one.

More movies

Since the last dashcam movie it's been a bit quiet, but now I've found the time to upload some new ones.

On my way to Vries again

It was some time ago that I cycled with the Huneliggers, but today it was that time again. As always we gather at Café Vriezerbrug in Vries. I was running late so I engaged the bike's turbo to try to arrive on time. A few kilometers before my destination I saw something that looked like a recumbent rider with two dogs running along. I was wrong. Turn's out that it were two riders on one bike. Georg and Jolanda D. came on their recumbent tandem. Russel and Jack (the newest of the two dogs) also came along. First they were running, later they rode along in the bicycle bag.

What a ROAM weekend!

Sunshine, rain, wind, kilometers, discomfort, accidents, wetness and more of those kind of things. That sums about up the weekend. Okay, a number of those things were unplanned, but it was still a weekend full of happenings. But I'll start at the beginning.

Turbulent day

In many way's this was a day that I won't forget. First Velox Incendia (my velomobile) turned 1. Secondly the wind was blowing fiercely and this was the first time for me to ride in a storm. According to the weather it was about 5-6 bft (about 50 km/h) with gusts up to 80 km/h. And lastly, I was surprised in a very unpleasant way, but more on that later.

Norhern Velomobile Ride 2011

Last year I rode with a borrowed bike, because my own bike wasn't finished yet, but this year I drove my own bike. Better yet, I didn't have to cycle to the meeting point because I lived there. That's convenient, I didn't have to get up early. Well... you do have to take care of the people arriving, there has to be tea and coffee.
