Day 10: Nehren-Cologne

The plan was to leave at 8 AM, but everybody was ready a half hour earlier. After some 30 minutes of cycling we arrived in Cochem and at Germania we had the 10,50 euro all-you-can-eat buffet. You don't have to tell a bunch of hungry bikers twice.

Day 9: Igel-Nehren

After enjoying a wonderful meal yesterday (Jagersteak with fries) and enough (alcohol-free) drinks it was time for a goodnight sleep. The alarm clock only went of at 7 AM and just before 8 AM we took off. Together with Josef we went to Trier to get some breakfast. At one of the many bakeries we enjoyed the qualities of the German bakers. After that it was time to go the the Viehmarkt (Cattle market) for a press photo and a story. In total there were 11 velomobiles and 1 open recumbent for the pictures.

To the start of the Euro Tour

Yesterday me and Josef cycled from Bonn to Igel next to the Moezel to join the rest of the Euro Tour group. There was a forecast for thunder, but it didn't show up. We only had a lot of rain for the second pard of the ride.

BBQ'ing in Bonn

This morning it was time to pack up my stuff and leave Wuppertal behind and head to Bonn. Getting up, breakfast and packing my stuff took only one and a half hour which left me plenty of time to help my brother Ewout pack up his caravan. After saying goodbye to everyone I jumped into my bike at 11:30 AM for the 82 kilometer ride south.

Holiday in Wuppertal

Finally holiday! After working for two days last week I prepared myself for the trip to Wuppertal (Germany). Preparations means, doing some shopping, creating a route, uploading the maps to the GPS, getting things ready, lubricating the chain, mounting a new set of front tires and cleaning and polishing the bike. Besides that I lay down on the couch and relaxed.

Velcro bike computer holder

For a while I'm annoyed with the fact that my Garmin Edge 500 bike computer in my velomobile has a bad reception. This is because the bike is made out of carbon and I keep the bike computer deep inside my velomobile in the pouch on my velomobile bag. Time for improvement. Normally there is a holder on the dashboard, but that is also 'inside' the bike and I don't want that. A week or two ago I stumbled upon the video below and that got me thinking.

Cycling with the Ketelbrothers

Last week I borrowed the Radical Design Cyclone Bicycle Trailer from Georg Dekkinga as preparation for my trip to Wuppertal (a week of Biblestudy in Germany with the subject: "A much better Covenant") and my participation in Euro Tour 2013. Last Saturday I packed up a few things (like my tent, sleeping gear and some clothes) in the trailer and cycled to my youngest brother Ewout in Stadskanaal. He is also going to Wuppertal and he is willing to bring this stuff.

Photos, photos, photos...

Last Monday we took a set of new pictures at work for use on our website and for pitches / presentations. Below you can find four of them. I find them very well done.

Sailing on the Zuidlaardermeer

Last Saturday we went to the Zuidlaardermeer (the lake of Zuidlaren) with our improv theater club Ulteam. For me it was the first time on such a small boat. The weather was perfect with a few clouds and a decent wind.

Holiday plans 2013 and 2014

Early this year I mentioned that the Euro Tour 2013 was canceled and that I was looking for an alternative. This eventually turned into my joining a stripped down version of the original Euro Tour 2013, Plan B. In stead of 100+ riders there are now (only) 32. But I'm not going to join them for the entire trip because the first week I will be in Wuppertal (Germany) for my (other) holiday. After that I'm cycling to Igel (close to the Luxembourg border) in two days and I will be joining the group for the last five days back to Leer (Germany).
