Back in the boat

Saturday started as usual with a ride to the rowing club. Just two more weeks and we're rowing 8 kilometers on the Amstel river in Amsterdam. I wonder how it'll go. After the rowing I quickly went on my way to the Ligfietsgarage Groningen for the test-drive-day. I felt like taking a look there. Afterwards I rushed home for a quick shower and some diner.

What a ROAM weekend!

Sunshine, rain, wind, kilometers, discomfort, accidents, wetness and more of those kind of things. That sums about up the weekend. Okay, a number of those things were unplanned, but it was still a weekend full of happenings. But I'll start at the beginning.

125th anniversary KGR De Hunze

Our rowingclub is celebrating it's 25e lustrum, we were founded 125 years ago on February 19th 1886. Today we have about 400 members, which is also a reason to party.

Norhern Velomobile Ride 2011

Last year I rode with a borrowed bike, because my own bike wasn't finished yet, but this year I drove my own bike. Better yet, I didn't have to cycle to the meeting point because I lived there. That's convenient, I didn't have to get up early. Well... you do have to take care of the people arriving, there has to be tea and coffee.

Angry driver

A day as today can be quite eventful. I left work and took my car to get some lunch. On the access road they were working on a gas pipe for a while so one half of the road was inaccessible. Last year they had placed traffic lights, but they were stolen twice, so now there were just signs to guide the traffic. As I already mentioned I was driving in my car past the road works. I took it slow because people were at work and a big excavator was working and I do not want to drive into it.

Ready for the darkness

Since the first ride on my rowingbike I haven't gotten around to riding it again. Last week I had 24/7 stand-by from work and that meant carrying a laptop with me (not so very handy). This week I don't have to but there still is another problem, I haven't fitted the bike with a headlight and that was necessary for biking to and from work in the dark. The mounting point was there and so was the headlight, but the problem was that the light was to far back and the footslider would crash into it if I started to use the bike.

Oliebollenride 2010

This time in the far-away Tilbug, but that isn't much of a problem. For me this was the first time, seeing I only own a velomobile since this February this year. I'd reserved a couple of day's for cycling to and from Tilburg. The first day before the ride I went to IJsselstein where I could stay at Maarten S. his place for the night. The alarm clock would go off at 6 AM and 1,5 hour later I was in the bike. The day's before the ride I worried a bit about the amount of snow I'd encounter on the way there and if the bike paths would be clean enough, but generally speaking it wasn't to bad.

Start rowing...

... well, almost. This afternoon my Thys 209 rowingbike was delivered by the owner of Liever Ligfietsen in Leeuwarden. I've waited a long time for this (almost half a year), but soon I can take it outside. At least... if the snow and dirt are gone. Now it just sits in my living room on one of those Tacx Cycletrack Speedbraker T1800. I can practice a bit until the weather clears.

Slow, fast and pulled over

This morning I left on my bike to do some erg (read: indoor rowing) on our rowing club. There is still ice in the water so you have to do something to keep in shape. And I got enough training on the way there. The new bike path between Zuidhorn and Groningen wasn't very nicely cleared of snow and ice. They had swept it bit that was a few days ago. Now all the snow and ice was frozen again and the tracks of other bikes were frozen into it, making the speed drop some 10 to 15 km/h. A good workout.

A message from Italy

Last night I received a email from a Italian (Fabio Bianchini) with the following text: "Ho una bellisima tua foto che ti ho scattato durante una mia vacanza in Olanda. Vorrei inviartela se hai un indirizzo di posta elettronica in cui allegarla come foto.jpg". As I don't speak Italian I used Google Translate to translate the text: "I have a beautifull and your photos I took during my vacation in Holland. If you would like to send an e-mail when attaching a foto.jpg", which I was able to decipher.
