Don't worry, I'm still alive. It's just that the last couple of days it was raining and you don't get out much then. Yesterday the rain wasn't that bad, so in the morning I went to The Metropolitan Museum of Art as suggested by a local New Yorker friend. The had a exhibition of Frans Hals, a famous Dutch painter. First we got a tour from a lady who could tell us a great deal about his paintings. Such as, him being a man who painted people with a certain reality instead of a static portrait. Also very nice to hear how she pronounced all sorts of Dutch names, she was quite good at it.
There were all sorts of paintings, works of art and other artifacts. To many to mention or show (all the pictures will be coming once I'm back in The Netherlands). There were however a number of crazy, beautiful, funny, simple and weird pieces, but hey... that's art (so I've been told).
There were also a number of people who made drawings or paintings. Some were very good and others would get frustrated of visitors bothering them and taking pictures.
Last week during my first night at the hostel the had a BBQ party. I met a number of interesting people there including Bianca from Tripping. We talked about my bike ride (amongst other things) and she invited me to go to a bluegrass performance in a small pub in Greenvillage (about 25 minutes by subway) named The Grisly Pear. Very nice and relaxing with a couple of beers and some good music. Now some advertising about Tripping. It's a site where you can, say you're in New York on holiday, meet locals and do fun stuff together (like a social form of couch surfing). I signed up last week, check it out.
I was planning to do some shopping in New York because I didn't have a real pair of shorts (except two sporting ones) and a nice t-shirt would always come in handy. Seeing that the weather the last couple of days wasn't good shorts and a t-shirt would be a bit could, so I put those plans in the freezer. Last night when Bianca entered the pub she immediately pulled out a Tripping t-shirt from her bag and et voilà, I had a new piece of wardrobe to wear. Just my size and nice and orange.
